(FOX 8)– The family of convicted kidnapper and rapist Ariel Castro says they are angry about how long it took the Warden to notify them of his death.
Castro was found hanging in his cell at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient, Ohio, about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, the state’s Department of Corrections said.
According to spokesperson JoEllen Smith, prison medical staff tried to revive him but failed.
Castro was taken to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 10:52 p.m.
Castro’s brother-in-law, Juan Alicea, told CNN that the family was notified by the warden about 1 a.m. According to Alicea, the family is angry that it learned about the death from media reports first.
In an emailed statement, Smith said, “A thorough review of this incident is underway.
