WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- A 10-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after he was hit by a car in West Valley City Wednesday morning.

Officers said the boy was trying to board a bus around 8:30 a.m. when he was hit by a car near 3670 South Rothchild Drive, which is along 1300 West.

Sgt. Jason Hauer of the West Valley City Police Department said the child was among a group of kids at the bus stop.

"From what witnesses are saying, the child did just, without looking, ran into the roadway," Hauer said.

Hauer said it appears the driver did not have time to react as the child run out into the road.

"A really unfortunate accident," he said. "Our traffic investigators will be looking at whether speed or anything else played a factor in the accident, but right now it appears to be just that."

The boy was taken to the hospital in serious, but stable condition. He is expected to be OK.
