SPANISH FORK — A Spanish Fork man was rescued after being stranded overnight in the Spanish Fork Canyon, officials said Sunday.
Hikers heard the 39-year-old man yelling for help this morning in the area of Spanish Oaks Reservoir. Sgt. Eldon Packer with Utah County Sheriff’s Office said the man got himself into a situation where he couldn’t get down.
Packer said the man was impaired Saturday night and believes it may have contributed to him getting stuck.
The man admitted to using heroin while in the canyon, said Sgt. Spencer Cannon, sheriff’s office spokesman.
The man didn’t suffer serious injuries. Packer said the hiker wasn’t wearing a lot of clothing so he suffered from hypothermia as well as dehydration.
The man also had minor injuries to his head and leg, Cannon said.
Rescue crews pulled the hiker off the mountain at 11 a.m. and he was transported to Mountain View Hospital in Payson. The incident is under investigation.
