PROVO, Utah – Police are asking for the public’s help finding three suspects who robbed a jewelry courier Tuesday afternoon.
Police officials said the courier was leaving the Provo Towne Centre at about 2:20 p.m. when three masked men in a minivan pulled up and threatened him with a knife, demanding the jewelry.
Police officials also said the men slashed the tires of a nearby car, but the vehicle didn’t belong to the courier. The suspects escaped with several pieces of jewelry.
Lt. Matt Siufanua of the Provo Police Department said they believe the suspects knew where the courier would be and when.
“One thing we do know about these types of robberies, cause these occur across the country, is that the individuals are well organized and well informed, and they know exactly who their targets are, and in this case we believe that’s what probably happened,” he said.
The suspects were wearing black hooded sweaters with red cloth covering their faces. Police released a sketch of one suspect, and they said the suspects fled in a gray Honda Odyssey that was a model from between 2004 and 2007.
Anyone with information about the robbery or the suspects is asked to call Detective Payne, at the Provo Police Department, 801-852-7280.
