SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah –Authorities are searching for a suspect who allegedly attempted to abduct a 12-year-old girl Wednesday.

Sgt. Gary Keller, South Salt Lake Police Department, said that around 6:30 p.m. the girl was grabbed by a man, but she was able to get away by slipping out of her shoes and running toward a police vehicle that happened to be passing through the area.

The incident occurred in the area near 500 E. Welby St.

The girl described the suspect as a male with a medium build and of average height. He had shoulder-length hair, and he was last seen wearing a dark jacket and dark jeans. He is believed to be in his '20s or '30s.

Multiple agencies are assisting South Salt Lake police as they search for the suspect. This is a developing story, and FOX 13 News will have more information as it becomes available.
