SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Highway Patrol is searching for suspects after several shots were fired out of a vehicle during rush hour traffic Thursday morning.
The incident occurred on I-215 near 4700 South around 8:30 a.m.
UHP troopers said a 911 caller alerted them to the incident. The caller said the person or persons in the vehicle pointed a rifle out the window and shot one round into the air before firing off several more shots.
Lt. Jeff Kingbur, Utah Highway Patrol, said they hope to find the suspect.
“When we have anybody shooting off rounds on the freeway randomly it’s very dangerous, and obviously we want to get them off the road,” he said.
Troopers said they do not have a license plate number, but they are looking for a green GMC Yukon. Anyone with information about the suspects or who witnessed the incident is asked to call the Utah Highway Patrol at 801-887-3800.
