Feds indict ‘Mountain Man’ burglary suspect

SALT LAKE CITY — A federal grand jury has indicted suspected “Mountain Man” burglar Troy Knapp on assault and weapons charges.

The grand jury handed up the indictment Thursday against Troy Knapp, charging him with assaulting a federal officer, use of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence and being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition.

The indictment accuses Knapp of possessing an SKS-type assault rifle and a .357 caliber handgun when he was arrested earlier this year. Knapp is accused in dozens of cabin burglaries across the state of Utah. His ability to elude police for months earned him the moniker “Mountain Man.”

Knapp is scheduled to make his first appearance before a federal judge on Monday.
