MURRAY, Utah —  A man was critically injured after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street Saturday night.

Murray Police Department officials said the man was hit by an eastbound car while the victim was crossing 4500 South near Creek Lane (365 E.) at about 8:40 p.m.

Lt. Mike Fernandez of the Murray Police Department said the victim was not crossing in a crosswalk when he was struck by the vehicle.

Fernandez said the driver wasn’t speeding or impaired in any way, and he said it was an unfortunate accident.

“As the car was driving on 45th, the gentleman just walked out in front of him,” he said.

Officials said the man was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
