Wall pleads not guilty to murder of ex-wife

SALT LAKE CITY -- The pediatrician accused of killing his ex-wife was back in court Monday for an arraignment hearing.

Johnny Wall plead not guilty to murder and burglary charges in the case of his ex-wife’s death, Uta Von Schwedler, in 2011.

Schwedler was found overdosed on Xanax and drowned in a bath tub in her Salt Lake City home. Prosecutors allege there were cuts and bruises on her body consistent with a struggle but the defense feels their case is weak.

“The medical examiner couldn't say this was a homicide in looking at the DNA evidence it's consistent with other members if his family that were living in the house," said defense attorney Fred Metos.

Wall was arrested in May. He will be back in court Feb. 3 for a status conference where they’ll most likely schedule a pretrial.
