The New England Patriots have reportedly released former Brigham Young University wide receiver Austin Collie, according to ESPN.
According to ESPN, Collie appeared in four games for the Patriots, catching three passes for 34 yards. He signed on to play for New England in October.
ESPN reported that the Patriots recently signed wide receiver LaQuan Williams, which meant they needed to open up a spot on the roster.
Collie received a knee injury Sunday while playing against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has also suffered several other injuries since he was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 2009.
Collie played for BYU during the 2004, 2007 and 2008 seasons. He received several honors while playing for BYU, including Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year.
