SALT LAKE CITY -- Police continue to search for two suspects involved in a high-speed chase Sunday afternoon.

Monday, Utah Highway Patrol troopers released the name and photo of one of the prime suspects in the chase. They said they are currently searching for Geoffrey Guess, 26, who was arrested in California in early 2013 for fleeing from police in a stolen car.

According to UHP, Guess was behind the wheel of a silver pick-up truck when a trooper tried stopping him for a traffic violation on I-80 near 7200 West.

Troopers said Guess exited northbound on 5600 West into the International Center Industrial Complex. The trooper following Guess ended the pursuit for safety reasons and called for backup.

Officers said Guess ran out of road near the FedEx facility and crashed the truck through a fence. They said Guess and the other suspect took off on foot through a field on Salt Lake International Airport property.

Police said they believe they know why the suspects took off.

"We know there were drugs in the vehicle, and that may be one of the factors," UHP Trooper Kammon Hiatt said. "There was also a firearm that they dumped on the side of the road that another police officer found, so we're checking that out along with the registered owner of the vehicle and seeing where those leads take us."

Officers said a car with California license plates was seen following the pick-up truck Guess was driving. They said they think Guess and the second suspect were able to make contact with the driver of that vehicle, which then picked them up and helped them escape.

FOX 13 will update this story with the latest details as soon as they become available.
