OGDEN, Utah — Weber State University head football coach Jody Sears has been relieved of his duties, the university’s athletics director Jerry Bovee announced Tuesday.

“Jody was placed in a difficult situation and we appreciate what he did for our football team,” Bovee said in a statement sent to FOX 13 News. “In the end we haven’t seen the progress in the program that we wanted and feel at this time it is best to make a change in our football leadership.”

A search for a new head coach will begin immediately.

According to the statement, Sears posted an overall record of 4-19 in his two seasons at Weber State and was 3-13 in Big Sky Conference play. The Wildcats were 2-9 in 2012 and finished this season 2-10 overall and 1-7 in Big Sky play.
