Man killed in avalanche near Huntington Reservoir

SANPETE COUNTY, Utah –Search and rescue crews were dispatched to an area near Huntington Reservoir Sunday after an avalanche, and officials said late Sunday a man was killed.

According to a press release from the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office, Clint Conover of Ferron died after he was buried about 6 to 8 feet under the surface of the snow.

Conover was with a group of three others, all described in the press release as highly experienced backcountry snowmobilers trained in avalanche rescue. The group had beacons, probes, shovels and spot GPS the release stated.

The group managed to locate their friend after he was buried by the avalanche. They began CPR and called for help. Crews from Emery and Sanpete counties, Fairview Ambulance and State Parks responded.

According to the release, Conover leaves behind a wife and five children.
