SALT LAKE CITY – A local organization hosted an annual event this weekend that lets bowlers launch a strike in the fight against cancer.

The Great Salt Lake Bowling Association hosted the 12th annual Bowl for the Cure event at Bonwood Bowl, located at 2500 South Main Street on Saturday and Sunday.

Proceeds from the event are donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Utah Affiliate, and over the years the Great Salt Lake Bowling Association has donated more than $155,000 to the charity, according to a press release from the GSLBA.

Those who attended purchased a spot to bowl, received a T-shirt and had the option to buy tickets to win prizes.

Chad Hall is one of the volunteers with the event, and he said it’s wonderful to see a community come together for a cause.

“My favorite part of today’s event is seeing all the people who are down here, the survivors and stuff that we recognize and everything, and how we recognize the people who have passed over the years from breast cancer,” he said.
