COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah – A police dog in Cottonwood Heights named Chip is a lot safer thanks to the efforts of a group in Massachusetts.

The K9 was recently gifted a vest that protects against guns and edged weapons, and it was courtesy of a group called Vested Interest in K9s and the Petco Foundation.

Chip’s handler, officer Thomas Daughtery, said he is thrilled to have the vest. He said four K9s have been killed in the U.S. this year and he is grateful for anything that keeps the four-legged officers safe.
