Heavy storms flood southern Utah, close streets

ST. GEORGE, Utah — St. George officials are asking residents to stay inside as city crews and emergency workers address road hazards affecting safe travel due to a passing storm, according to tweets from St. George police Tuesday.

Fox 13’s Zach Whitney reports there has been minor flooding damage across the city;  the storm has caused mostly exterior damage.

Crews are filling sandbags.

Emergency crews are dealing with several issues around town related to the heavy rain. St. George police released the following roadway conditions and closures for the following streets via Twitter:

-100 Southat the Interstate 15 overpass is closed due to the failure of a retaining wall.

-200 East north of St. George Boulevard is closed due to rocks and dirt from the hillside.

-There is an advisory for Indian Hills Drive due to standing water and debris.

-270 E. Riverside Drive is shutdown.

-900 S. Dixie Drive is becoming impassable.

-Red Cliffs Drive in front of Red Cliffs Mall is flooded and there may be one lane that is passable. Caution is advised.
