SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah – A man is in custody after a high-speed chase that lasted about an hour and injured one trooper.

Police arrested Henry Ansison and booked him into the Salt Lake County Jail after he was released from the hospital.

Officers said he appeared to swallow some pills during the chase; doctors retrieved the evidence.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said the chase started when a trooper pulled over a car near I-80 and State St. in South Salt Lake at about 2 a.m.

Officials said they believed criminal activity was going on in the car.

The driver, Ansison, suddenly sped off when troopers were investigating.

The suspect hit the trooper in the leg while driving off; his injuries are minor.

Authorities said the suspect drove up Parleys Canyon, over road spikes several times and almost made it to Echo Reservoir and I-84.

Officials were able to arrest Ansison just after 3 a.m.
