SOUTH OGDEN, Utah – A man was taken into custody after police officers and then SWAT personnel responded to a call regarding a man with a gun Saturday.
South Ogden Police Department officials received a call from someone reporting there was a man inside a home who was threatening the people inside with a handgun.
Police responded to 4315 Monroe Blvd., and a man inside was threatening to have a shootout with the officers. Officials contacted those inside, and eight people came out unharmed.
The man making threats remained inside, and officials called SWAT personnel to the scene. The man surrendered after SWAT responded and negotiations continued.
Chief Darin Parke, South Ogden Police Department, said the suspect, identified as a man in his 30s named Joey Lucero, has a history of troubles with the law.
“In checking… he was also wanted for possession of a weapon by a restricted person, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, so it sounds like he has a history of violence and drug dealing,” Parke said.
Parke said Lucero and those inside the home were “associates.”
