Charges filed after teen girls admit to kidnapping hoax

BOUNTIFUL, Utah – Prosecutors confirm that charges have been filed after two teen girls admitted that their claims of being kidnapped were faked.

Bountiful police say the two girls, ages 16 and 17, originally told officers that they were abducted at around 2 a.m. on Sept. 9 and held in an SUV against their will for 19 hours before escaping.

But police say that they found surveillance video which clearly shows the girls in a convenience store during the time of the alleged abduction. After being confronted, authorities say the girls admitted their story was a hoax.
