SALT LAKE CITY - Authorities are working to repair the road after a water main break in Salt Lake City.

Crews said they hope to have Main St. between 600 S. and 700 S. repaired by Monday afternoon.

The affected part of Main St. will remain closed until repairs are completed.

Officials have still not confirmed what caused the line to rupture just after 4:30 a.m.

The break sent thousands of gallons of water rushing like a river down Main St.

Chris Taber with the Salt Lake City Public Works Department said aging parts of the infrastructure below ground could be to blame.

He said the line that burst Monday is nearly 100 years old.
