FRANKLIN COUNTY, Idaho – A man from Utah was killed in a snowmobile accident in Idaho Saturday after the snowmobile he was riding went over the top of a steep drop off.
According to a press release from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office in Idaho,73-year-old Dennis R. Thompson of Smithfield, Utah was killed in the accident.
Police responded to the Gibson Lake area of Franklin Basin Saturday just before 1 p.m. Family members said they had seen Thompson climb a very steep hill. They said due to the snowy conditions, once he reached the ridge he continued over the top and over a steep drop off.
The press release states the snowmobile appears to have struck a couple of trees before coming to a rest about 60 feet below the ridge. Family members immediately started CPR after the crash but attempts to rescue the man were not successful.
