WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- Firefighters discovered a male dead in an apartment after extinguishing a fire in the residence Saturday morning.
At approximately 9:53 a.m., West Valley City firefighters responded to 3060 W. Lancer Way on a report of a structure fire. When they arrived on scene, there was smoke coming from the windows and doors of the apartment, said Battalion Chief Jeff Fox.
After putting out a blaze in the living room, firefighters searched the apartment for any people and found a male dead behind a couch in the living area.
Preliminary reports show the male died from smoke inhalation, Fox said.
The male's death and the fire are still under investigation.
