Navajo officer dead, another injured in shootout that killed hostage suspect

CHINLE, Ariz. – A Navajo Police officer and a gunman are dead after shooting in northern Arizona.

According to the Navajo Times, police were called about a man holding a family hostage with an assault rifle in New Mexico.

Authorities said the suspect ran and when officers caught up to him in Arizona, he opened fire.

He killed one officer and injured another before he was shot and killed.

The second officer is recovering at the hospital.

The names of those involved have not been released.
