TOOELE COUNTY, Utah -- Police have identified an individual who was found dead under suspicious circumstances at Grantsville Reservoir Saturday, and Sunday a person of interest in the case was arrested for witness tampering, possession of stolen property and vehicle burglary.
Lt. Travis Scharmann of the Tooele County Sheriff's Office said the dead man has been identified as 57-year-old Larry Ray of Utah County. Ray was found at a campsite near Grantsville Reservoir Saturday after someone arriving in the area saw a suspicious person in the area and decided to take a closer look.
Police had searched the area for the suspicious person described by the witness but they did not find anyone. Sunday, Scharmann said Devon Dahl, a 24-year-old man from Ogden, was arrested as a person of interest in connection with the case and he said they consider him the last person to see Ray before the man's death. At this time the man is not considered a suspect in the death.
Police said on Saturday they aren't sure if there is foul play involved in the death and that they were waiting for a medical examiner to determine the cause of death.
“Right now, anything’s possible,”Scharmann said of the death Saturday night. “Right now we look at it as suspicious because we had a witness report seeing someone leaving the area.”
Scharmann said Dahl was hitchhiking and was picked up in the area of Grantsville Reservoir on Mormon Trail Road around 4 p.m. Saturday and given a ride. Police responding to a tip arrested the man at a home in Grantsville around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police said they are working to determine what, if any, relationship exists between Dahl and Ray. FOX 13 News will have more information as it becomes available.
