Police chase ends when suspects crash into power pole downtown

SALT LAKE CITY - Authorities have a wanted gang member in custody after he led them on a chase which ended in a crash in Salt Lake City.

An officer saw the suspect downtown Wednesday night and tried to pull him over but the driver took off.

Officers chased the suspect, 18-year-old Miguel Gutierrez-Martinez, and two other passengers in the car until the suspects ran a red light, hit another car and crashed into a power pole near 900 S. and 200 W.

The crash took down power lines which delayed TRAX trains in the area at about 7 p.m.

Police arrested Gutierrez-Martinez and the two others in the car.

Authorities said Gutierrez-Martinez is a suspect in a recent shooting and aggravated assault.

He was booked into jail on seven counts of discharging a firearm, riot, failure to stop for officers and reckless driving.
