FORT DUCHESNE, Utah — A 20-month-old girl died Sunday after she was hit by a pickup truck being backed out of a driveway in Uintah County.

According to a press release from the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews were dispatched just before 10 a.m. to the Country Village Mobile Home Park at 8100 East Highway in Fort Duchesne on a report of an auto-pedestrian crash.

Investigators said they believe that a family member went out to turn the truck around, and when the driver reversed they didn’t notice that the child had walked behind the truck.

The driver called for help after the child was struck, and the victim was transported to Uintah Basin Medical Center–where she was later pronounced dead.

The release states: “The parties involved have been very cooperative throughout the investigation, which is currently ongoing.”

The names of those involved have not been released.
