Basketball team presents letterman jacket to parents of teen killed in plane crash

SYRACUSE, Utah -- A touching moment unfolded Friday night at Syracuse High School before a basketball game, as senior members of the team gave a special tribute to the mother and father of Jaxon Whatcott, who was killed last year in a plane crash.

The athletes presented Whatcott’s parents with a letterman jacket. Jaxon, then 16, died in a single-engine plane crash in 2014 that also killed his brother, 19-year-old Daulton Whatcott, who was flying the plane.

At Friday's event, the Whatcotts said they are always surprised by the ways their boys' friends honor the lives of their sons.

“The things that they do, and not just their friends, but their family—Just amazing support and it's sometimes shocking to us,  just that there's, I don't know, there's always something more and they're always remembering them,” Rhett Whatcott said.

Last December, the Whatcott brothers' jerseys were also framed as a way to pay tribute.
