LINDON, Utah -  I-15 southbound in Lindon was closed for several hours Friday after a box of industrial staples dropped onto the highway and caused a multi-car crash that left one person dead.

Officials said traffic was being diverted at Pleasant Grove Boulevard, but a few hours after the crash the highway was reopened.

One man was in critical condition after emergency crews had to cut him from his vehicle. He was transported to a hospital, where he later passed away. Police have identified the deceased as 59-year-old Juan Lopez of West Valley City.

Two others had minor injuries and went to the hospital to be checked.

Police said they are investigating a medical condition as a possible factor in the crash.
