LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Video of a buzzer-beating shot at a high school basketball game is going viral, and the footage shows an incredible, last-minute effort that inspired an explosive reaction from the crowd.
Video posted to Twitter by Steve Bittenbender, @Freelancehack, shows Alex Cook of Male High School sinking a desperation shot from nearly half-court after a botched pass. Understandably, the crowd goes wild and Cook is soon buried by a swarm of enthusiastic teammates and fans.
Tweets from Bittenbender indicate the amazing buzzer-beater was preceded by a 3-point shot from St. Xavier that tied the game with just 11 seconds remaining.
USA Today reports Male High School was tied in the game with St. Xavier at 62 when Cook made the 3-point shot to secure a 65-62 victory.
“I didn’t think I was going to get it off,” Cook told USA Today of the breathtaking heave.
