SALT LAKE CITY – A driver who clipped another vehicle before flipping, rolling and sliding for nearly a quarter of mile is now in jail.

Police said the crash occurred as an SUV was speeding down Bangerter Highway near 5900 South in Salt Lake City.

The driver of the SUV clipped another vehicle, over-corrected and ended up crashing through and flipping over a barrier. The vehicle rolled several times, but the driver was not seriously hurt.

“He got out and he ran,” Lt. Dan McConkey of the Unified Police Department said of the driver. “Jumped over the fence to the east and we eventually caught him in the neighborhood."

Police are investigating the crash as a potential DUI, and the man has been booked into jail. McConkey said the SUV was travelling well above the speed limit when the crash occurred.
