OGDEN, Utah — Police in Ogden arrested a man after a high speed chase Sunday evening, and authorities said during the pursuit the man threw a firearm out of the window and drove into oncoming traffic.
According to a press release from the Ogden Police Department, an officer tried to make a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle around 3:24 p.m. in the area of 1600 Monroe Boulevard.
The driver fled the scene, and a pursuit was terminated for safety reasons after several blocks when the suspect began driving into oncoming traffic.
However, another officer a few blocks away later observed the vehicle still fleeing at high speeds and driving into oncoming traffic, and “due to the severe risk the suspect was creating when not being pursued, the pursuit was re-initiated.”
During the chase, the suspect threw a gun out of the window before eventually jumping from the still-moving vehicle and fleeing on foot. The car continued into a yard on the 2300 block of Madison Avenue, where it damaged a fence.
While on foot, the suspect briefly entered a home in an attempt to hide but was only inside a short time before fleeing back into the neighborhood. He was arrested in the area of the 2300 block of Jefferson.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Augustine Sue, was booked into jail and faces charges of evading, possession of a loaded firearm by a restricted person, avoiding apprehension, interfering with arrest, leaving the scene of an accident and trespass of a dwelling.
