SOUTH JORDAN, Utah — A high school athlete in Utah is getting national attention, as she’s been named the Sports Illustrated high school athlete of the month.

“BMX is basically a bunch of piles of dirt that you go as fast as you can on,” Sophia Foresta said of her sport, which she has a long history with.

“I started racing when I was six years old,” she said.

And, since then, Sophia has accomplished a lot.

Not only is she a two-time national champion bicycle motocross rider, she has also excelled in track and in the classroom at Bingham High School and within her community.

She volunteers with children who are deaf and is currently studying sign language in school. Sophia beat out a number of athletes around the country for this award.

In the next few year, she hopes to get a spot in the 2020 Olympics.
