ST. GEORGE, Utah — A man in St. George was arrested and is facing numerous charges for allegedly sexually abusing a teenage girl over the course of several years.

According to a statement of probable cause from St. George police, Jose A. Paredes was arrested Wednesday and faces five counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child as a first-degree felony and five counts of sex abuse of a minor as a third-degree felony.

Last November, a 16-year-old girl reported that Paredes, who is not a stranger to the teen, had sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions by touching her both over and under her clothing. The teen reported that the man had touched her inappropriately “at least once a week for the past four years, beginning when the victim was 12 or 13 years old.”

Paredes was arrested and booked into jail, with officers noting he declined to speak with them regarding the allegations. The man is being held on a $100,000 bail.
