COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah — A Trader Joe’s and a Cafe Rio in Cottonwood Heights were evacuated Saturday evening after a fire broke out on the roof, and the blaze has been extinguished and no injuries were reported.
A Unified Fire Authority spokesman said the call about the fire came in around 7:19 p.m., and crews responded to the area of 6989 South 1300 East.
Smoke and flames were visible at the Trader Joe’s, and that store along with a Cafe Rio that shares the same building were evacuated as a precaution. As of just before 8 p.m., authorities said the business remained evacuated.
Crews extinguished the fire, and no injuries were reported.
UFA said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but said they are investigating the possibility that maintenance workers using a grinder or welder on the roof may have sparked some nearby plywood.
