WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- A man is in serious condition after he was shot outside his West Valley City home late Saturday night.

At about 11:50 p.m., a man, looking for his daughter, came pounding on the door at a home located at 3400 South and 3450 West, said Lt. Dalan Taylor, West Valley City police. The victim answered the door, didn’t know what the man was talking about and an argument followed.

The victim eventually followed the suspect off his property. Taylor said the man then pulled a gun and shot the victim, hitting him at least once. The man left the area on foot.

The victim was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.

Police dogs were brought to the scene in an attempt to locate the suspect, but were unable to pick up a trail.

Police describe the suspect as white and in his 30s.
