UTAH -- The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for parts of Utah including Salt Lake City and Tooele County Sunday afternoon, and winds of 25-35 mph are expected while gusts of up to 55 mph are possible.

The affected areas include the Salt Lake and Tooele valleys along with the west-central and southwest valleys of Utah, and the desert and mountains around the Great Salt Lake. The National Weather service said wind gusts mixed with thunderstorms are likely along the Wasatch Front from Brigham City to Provo through 4 p.m.

The advisory is expected to remain in effect through 6 p.m. as a cold front crosses the area Sunday afternoon. The NWS warns that travel along areas of I-80, Highways 50 and 6, and State Route 30 may be impacted by strong and shifting cross winds. Wind gusts as high as 62 mph have been reported along I-80 east of Wendover.

The NWS states high-profile or lightweight vehicles may face hazardous conditions. Winds above 30 mph or gusts beyond 45 mph can make driving more difficult for drivers in any vehicle.
