Man recovering after being shot in chest in South Salt Lake

SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah -- A South Salt Lake man is recovering from a gunshot wound to the chest after an early morning shooting, Saturday.

At about 3 a.m., South Salt Lake police responded to 3728 S. 700 East on a shots fired call. The 911 caller told dispatch there was a group of people outside the residence arguing and yelling when the gunshot was heard, according to a press release from South Salt Lake police.

When officers arrived on scene, they discovered blood and searched the basement of the residence for potential victims.

According to the release, police found a man who would not respond to officer’s commands but was taken safely into custody.

The male had no injuries and authorities are working to determine if he was involved in the incident.

Local hospitals were contacted to watch out for anyone with a gunshot wound. Within minutes, the release states, staff at a nearby hospital contacted police about a 29-year-old man who had come into the facility with a single gunshot wound to the upper body.

The victim was taken to the hospital by individuals who were at the scene.

The shooting is currently under investigation.
