Utah tech company’s expansion part of growing ‘Silicon Slopes’

LEHI, Utah – They started in a small Provo warehouse and now Utah tech company Entrata Software announced they’re expanding operations again, bringing their total workforce to 1,400 employees.

The expansion is just one of several companies adding to the growing “Silicon Slopes" of Northern Utah County.

The Governor’s Office of Economic Development reports Utah is the second fastest growing state for tech jobs, making up about 5.6% of the Utah workforce. Entrata will expand operations, adding 191 employees over the next five years, and potentially more when they build a new headquarters on the east side of I-15.

“It really had become a hotbed of technology growth,” said Entrata CEO Dave Bateman. ”I just look out the window of my office and see about seven or eight different, four to five-story buildings going up, that are going to house new tech companies.”

Entrata started in 2003, and they’re the definition of a homegrown company. Because they’re primarily internet based, the headquarters could be anywhere, but Bateman said he chooses to stay in Utah and bring the talented workforce to him.

“The software that we build is in the apartment industry,” Bateman said. “There are places in the U.S. that are hotbeds for the apartment communities. I think people see [Utah] as just, it’s a beautiful place to come and live and relocate their families.”

GOED estimates the expansion will bring in close to $1.6 million in new state tax revenues over the next five years. For more information about Entrata, visit their website.
