Police chase leads to location of alleged car thief in West Valley

Posted

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- Police have located a suspected car thief after a police chase in West Valley City early Friday morning.

An officer attempted to pull over a vehicle that had recently been reported as stolen. The driver of the vehicle decided to drive away.

Back up units arrived and contained the area and were able to spike the suspect's tires.

However, the suspect drove on the rims of the car for as long as possible before taking off on foot. A K-9 officer deployed and engaged with the suspect along with an officer that tased the man, West Valley Police Officer Robert Hamilton said.

Authorities  said they had plenty of backup and fortunately the suspect only had brass knuckles.

Police do not have the suspects identification yet as the man is refusing to cooperate with police, Hamilton said.

The suspect is being treated at the hospital for lacerations after falling from the taser and dog bite wounds.

No officers involved reported any injuries.
