PROVO, Utah — A man was booked into jail and faces a charge of attempted murder after police say he cut another man’s throat with a box cutter during an argument Friday night.

According to a press release from the Provo Police Department issued Sunday, Corwin Daniel Smith was engaged in a verbal argument with Steven Gashler near 1100 South University Avenue in Provo Friday around 8:45 p.m.

The argument escalated and became physical, the press release states, and Smith allegedly became “enraged because Steven disrespected him. Corwin then threatened to cut Steve’s throat with a box cutter and did so.”

Smith was still in possession of the box cutter when police arrested him, and he was booked into jail on a charge of attempted murder.

Gashler was treated and released at a Utah County hospital.
