DRAPER, Utah — The American Preparatory Academy's Draper 1 campus closed Tuesday after the 15th person there tested positive for COVID-19.
APA's Executive Director, Carolyn Sharette, told FOX 13 that about 45 percent of the students at the Draper 1 campus were already distance-learning from home.
"Today we pivoted to having all students learning at home as we hit our 15th positive case of COVID-19," Sharette said. "We always seek to do what’s best for students, families and our staff and feel this brief pause in on-campus learning is best for our families."
Sharette said she looks forward to seeing students back on campus very soon.
The Utah Dept. of Health has said it closely monitors any outbreaks or clusters of COVID-19 cases. It will oversee quarantines of those who tested positive and anyone else who may have been exposed as well as contact tracing in an effort to see where the cases originated.
Pleasant Grove High School closed Tuesday for two days due to COVID-19. The health department and the Alpine School District said the closure was not just because of cases at the high school, but because the community of Pleasant Grove had become a "hot spot" and several clusters of cases had been reported.
