ST. GEORGE, Utah — The City of St. George has canceled this year's marathon due to concerns about the potential spread of COVID-19.
The marathon had been scheduled for October 3.
“This was a difficult decision for us to make. We have enjoyed 43 consecutive years of this race, which has become one of the crown jewels of the marathon circuit,” said Michelle Graves, Race Director for the St. George Marathon in a news release sent to FOX 13. “However, the health and safety of our runners, volunteers, staff members and residents outweighed the potential benefits of moving forward with this year’s race.”
St. George's next marathon is now scheduled for October 2, 2021.
Those who already registered for this year's event will have the option to receive full refunds or to put their payments toward the 2021 St. George Marathon. According to the city, those people have already been contacted by email.
