PROVO, Utah — Gov. Herbert's decision to change the COVID-19 status of Provo will force BYU to play in front of empty stands the next two games.

Because of a rise in cases in parts of Utah County, the cities of Provo and Orem will move to orange on the color-coded restriction scale. The move means sporting events may still take place, but without spectators.

BYU had planned on allowing 6,000 fans to attend Saturday's home game vs. Troy and the Oct. 2 game vs. Louisiana Tech. However, the new designation means all fans will be kept away.

Ticket holders for the Troy game who want a refund can email the BYU ticket office.
