CEDAR CITY, Utah — Police have arrested a suspect who they say intentionally struck a victim and left him to die in a fatal hit-and-run.
Cedar City officials say a 37-year-old male was hit Monday evening in a Home Depot parking lot.
Emergency crews transported the victim to the hospital where he later died of his injuries.
Police say the suspect, Jacob Schmidt, 25, fled the parking lot in a Dodge Stratus. The abandoned vehicle was found Tuesday, just west of Cedar City on a dirt road hidden behind a tree.
Evidence led officials to Schmidt who was taken into custody during a traffic stop Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder.
