TAYLORSVILLE, Utah — Multiple crews worked Tuesday morning to put out hot spots at a fire that destroyed a building on the Redwood campus of Salt Lake Community College.
Unified Fire says the fire broke out on the roof of the `Applied Technology Building` around 5 p.m. Monday.
The building was being renovated, so it was mostly empty except for two employees inside.
One of those men described hearing what sounded like firecrackers before realizing he was in danger.
"They were big atrium windows on the roof line and a strong wind out of the west and so when the fire broke the windows in the atrium you basically had wind blow torch in the fire and making it much more intense and push through the building very quickly," said UFD Captain Ben Sharer.
Everyone made it out safely and no firefighters were injured.
The fire started on the roof, but what caused it is still under investigation.
