OGDEN, Utah — A man is dead after fleeing from a traffic stop in Ogden, dragging one officer in the process and crashing into two other vehicles.

According to Ogden Police, the man was pulled over for a traffic violation near 2600 Monroe Blvd. shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

When asked to step out of his vehicle, police say he refused and sped away, leading to a pursuit. An officer was dragged for about two blocks before he was ejected due to the man driving "erratically," police say. It was not stated if the officer was holding on or if he was caught on a portion of the vehicle.

The driver eventually lost control near 800 Sullivan Road, where he collided with a police car that had pulled to the side of the road. He then collided with another vehicle that had pulled over to the other side.

The suspect sustained critical injuries due to the collisions and died at the scene despite lifesaving measures.

Three officers were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the 59-year-old driver of the second vehicle hit by the fleeing driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the scene.

Utah Highway Patrol will conduct the investigation.

The deceased driver's name was not immediately released.
