HERRIMAN, Utah — One person was killed in an early morning crash in Herriman.

It happened around one a.m. on the Mountain View Corridor.

Witnesses said they saw a vehicle drive up an embankment and then flip onto its roof.

The driver of the Ford Explorer was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said speed and distraction may have played a factor in the crash, as well as the driver not realizing the speed limit decreases from 55 mph to 45 mph in the area.

“It’s extremely dark, and unless you’re looking, you can miss it very easily,” said Sgt. Greg Shaver with Herriman police. “We do believe speed related, maybe some distraction, unfamiliar with the area, not knowing because it comes up pretty quick if you’re just cooking down the road.”

Investigators will determine just what happened. The victim’s name has not been released.
