UTAH COUNTY — A wildfire is burning in rural southwest Utah County.
The "Elberta Fire" began on Friday, and was estimated at 1,982 acres with 50 percent containment Saturday evening.
Winds in the area of more than 50 miles per hour caused it to spread fast Friday evening, but rainfall on Saturday morning helped firefighters gain some control.
Two other wildfires were sparked Friday: the "Old Pinery Fire" in Juab County, which was 100 percent contained Saturday with a final size of 200 acres, and the "Broad Canyon Fire" estimated at 650 acres with 55 percent containment. The Broad Canyon Fire is on Stansbury Island — sparked just days after two wildfires totaling more than 12,000 acres were contained.
