UTAH COUNTY, Utah — An 18-year-old Washington man became trapped on a Mt. Timpanogos cliff face Monday, and a helicopter hoist crew performed a "high risk rescue" to bring him off the mountainside around midnight.

"This was not without risk, but the hoist crew carefully planned and flawlessly executed the rescue. The skill of these crews saves countless hours and many lives," a tweet from Sgt. Spencer Cannon of the Utah County Sheriff's Office said.

According to the Utah County Sheriff's Office, the man got "ledged out on a cliff face" and crews dropped equipment for him in case he needed to stay the night.

The man became stranded on a cliff face at 9,000 feet "after choosing the road less traveled," a Facebook post by the Sheriff's Office said.
