TOOELE, Utah — Interstate 80 was closed in both directions east of Tooele Tuesday evening after multiple semitrailers were blown over by high winds.
The Utah Department of Transportation announced the complete closure of the freeway between Wendover and Tooele just after 6 p.m.
UDOT had reported multiple crashes in that stretch of roadway in the previous few hours, and at 3:30 p.m. announced that semis would be prohibited. The estimated time of lifting the restriction was 8 p.m.
Utah Highway Patrol later reported that troopers were responding to three semis that had blown over and said high winds were expected to continue for "the next couple of hours" (6:10 p.m.)
